The best areas of Marbella for families in 2026 are Nueva Andalucía, San Pedro de Alcántara and Guadalmina, Marbella East around Elviria, and Sierra Blanca, with Benahavís and Estepona excellent options minutes outside town. All offer international schools close by, safe residential streets and year-round communities rather than holiday crowds. Here is how they compare on schools, space and lifestyle, based on what our family buyers actually choose.
Nueva Andalucía
The Golf Valley is where more of our family buyers end up than anywhere else, and for good reason. Aloha College sits right in the middle of it, teaching ages 3 to 18 through IGCSE and the IB Diploma, so the school run can be a five-minute drive. The area is made up of quiet residential streets and gated communities in the hills ten minutes above Puerto Banús, with golf on every side, padel clubs, and the Saturday market as a fixture of family life. It also has the widest choice of family villas and townhouses in Marbella, which matters when you are searching with a specific budget and bedroom count in mind. Explore Nueva Andalucía
San Pedro de Alcántara and Guadalmina
San Pedro is a proper working town rather than a resort, and families feel that difference within a week of moving in. There is a lively boulevard, a beachfront the town actually uses, and Laude San Pedro International College teaching the British curriculum with a Spanish stream. Next door, Guadalmina Baja offers classic beachside family villas on large flat plots, while Guadalmina Alta, on the other side of the road, is quieter and noticeably better value. Explore Guadalmina
Marbella East: Elviria and Los Monteros
East of the town centre the coast changes character: pine forests, lower density and the best sandy beaches in Marbella. The English International College sits between Las Chapas and Elviria and has been teaching the British curriculum here since 1982, taking pupils from 3 to 18 through GCSEs and A-levels. The area generally gives you more garden and more house per euro than the Golden Mile side of town. For families who want space, beach access and a calmer pace, this side of Marbella is often the answer. Explore Marbella East
Sierra Blanca
Sierra Blanca is Marbella's most secure family address: gated, patrolled and set high above the town with sea views to Gibraltar on a clear day. Swans International School has its senior campus inside the area, teaching Years 6 to 13 through the British curriculum and the IB Diploma, with the primary school at El Capricho. It is also the most expensive area on this list, and buyers here are usually paying for exactly two things: privacy and security. Explore Sierra Blanca
Benahavís
Twenty minutes from the coast, Benahavís is a white village surrounded by golf courses and protected hills, with quick access down to the schools of San Pedro and Nueva Andalucía. The housing stock is newer than most of Marbella, the air is cooler in summer, and the village has a remarkable restaurant scene for its size. Plenty of families who start their search on the beach end up here once they have done the school run both ways. Explore Benahavís
Estepona
Estepona is the best value on this stretch of coast and improving faster than anywhere else on it. The old town is full of flowers and genuinely lived in, the beaches are family beaches, and Colegio San José has a campus here, teaching a bilingual Spanish and English curriculum from age 3 to 18, with the IB Diploma available in the sixth form. Strong new-build supply means families can still buy modern three and four bedroom homes here at prices Marbella has not seen for years. Explore Estepona
Schools first, house second
After hundreds of family relocations we give every family the same advice: shortlist the schools first, then draw the property search around them. The Costa del Sol has more than 20 international schools teaching British, American, French, German, Swedish and IB curricula, so the choice is real. Start with our guide to international schools on the Costa del Sol, then our buying guide for how a Spanish purchase actually works.
Frequently asked questions
Which Marbella area is best for international schools?
Nueva Andalucía and Sierra Blanca have leading schools inside the area itself (Aloha College and Swans International School), while San Pedro and Elviria each have a major school on the doorstep. In practice, nowhere on this list is more than 20 minutes from a good international school.
Do families live in Marbella all year round?
Yes. Marbella is a working town of well over 150,000 people with schools, sports clubs and a full winter calendar. The areas in this guide are chosen precisely because they have year-round communities rather than seasonal ones.
How do I start a family property search in Marbella?
Shortlist two or three schools, decide your maximum school-run time, and search inside that circle. Tell us the schools and the budget and we will send you what is genuinely worth viewing, including homes that are not publicly listed.
