Selwo Marina in Benalmadena offers dolphin and sea lion shows alongside tropical birds, while Sea Life Benalmadena the largest aquarium on the Costa del Sol — is home to over 5,000 sea creatures including sharks, piranhas and jellyfish. Day Trips & Adventures

When you're ready to venture a little further, the Marbella area delivers some unforgettable day trips. El Chorro and the Caminito del Rey, around an hour from Marbella, is one of Andalusia's most spectacular experiences; a mountain walkway pinned to the walls of a steep gorge above brilliant turquoise lakes. The scenery is jaw dropping and the walk is suitable for older children. Combine it with a swim at the Guadalhorce lakes and you have a perfect day out.

Back closer to home, Tivoli World in Benalmadena is a classic amusement park with 30 rides — great for a fun evening out with the kids. The Benalmadena Cable Car is a must for the views alone — 15 minutes to the summit of Mount Calamorro with panoramic vistas stretching across the Costa del Sol, Gibraltar and on a clear day, the coast of Africa. And if your kids are fascinated by wildlife, Crocodile Park in Torremolinos offers genuinely up-close encounters with crocodiles and reptiles.

Where to Eat with the Kids

One of the great things about the Costa del Sol is that you don't have to choose between a great meal and an early night, eat well, be home early, and avoid the late night port crowds altogether.

For a relaxed Sunday, La Siesta on the beach at Puerto Banús is a local favourite. Chilled vibes, great food, and if they're running their Sunday Sonders event, even better. Perfect timing for families who want to be home before it gets boisterous.

The Clubhouse is an easy, reliable dinner option. Welcoming to families and with indoor simulators to keep the kids entertained while the adults take their time over a meal.

Pizzeria Picasso is a Puerto Banús institution. Right on the marina since 1982, with thin crust pizzas, creamy pastas and a dedicated kids' menu. Walk-ins only, so arrive early and beat the queue.

And for a proper beach dinner, Kala Kalua in San Pedro is a brilliant option; great food, right on the beach, and relaxed enough that the kids can play while you actually enjoy your meal.
